The NW-S638F is the 8 GB model in the sixth-generation S Series Network Walkman lineup. It carries the same unified card-style design and Omakase Channel introduction. With 8 GB of internal storage it handled MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV playback along with the 240x320 LCD display, FM radio with recording, video and photo feature, Clear Audio Technology, and 40-hour lithium-ion battery life.

This unit was a middle-capacity, very representative example of the S Series after it had become a stable and broadly appealing compact Walkman branch. Sony could stretch the line across markets and packages without weakening the identity or making the whole thing feel messy again.
