Network Walkman

Network Walkman in 2007

In 2007, the design was changed to a structure that accommodates user-friendliness for general users. The product has been adjusted to meet market requirements.

NW-A805

NW-A805

The NW-A805 was the base model in the second-generation A Series Network Walkman family. It moved the premium A line fully into flash memory after the earlier hard-drive A1000 generation. It provided 2 GB of storage for ATRAC, MP3, WMA, and AAC files, with a 240x320 LCD for video and photo playback alongside DSEE and Clear Audio Technology. WM-PORT connectivity and a 30-hour lithium-ion battery completed the platform. This generation made the A Series a multimedia flash player while keeping its higher-end position. The change affected daily use directly: the player was built for music, video, and photos in one compact device, with broader codec support and a display suited to more than track text. It felt less like a flash music player with extras and more like Sony's first settled premium pocket media platform.

NW-A806

NW-A806

The NW-A806 is the mid-capacity model in the second-generation A Series Network Walkman lineup. It followed the same full flash-memory shift from the previous hard-drive era. With 4 GB of internal storage, it supports ATRAC, MP3, WMA, and AAC playback. The 240x320 LCD handled video and photo viewing, DSEE, Clear Audio Technology, WM-PORT, and 30-hour lithium-ion battery life. As part of the early memory-type A family, it extended the series' multimedia capabilities without changing the core second-generation concept. It is part of the first real flash multimedia A Series, when Sony was trying to turn the premium Walkman into something broader than a dedicated music player. Video playback, a color screen, and a much more media-oriented identity pushed the line away from the older portable-audio-appliance logic and closer to the pocket media-player world of the late 2000s. It still belongs to a slightly awkward transition period, but it also shows Sony reacting to a world where pure music playback no longer felt like enough to define a premium portable on its own.

NW-A808

NW-A808

The NW-A808 was the highest-capacity model in the second-generation A Series Network Walkman range. It completed that family's move into flash memory with the first 8 GB version, supporting ATRAC, MP3, WMA, and AAC files. A 240x320 LCD handled video and photo playback, while DSEE, Clear Audio Technology, WM-PORT, and a 30-hour lithium-ion battery carried over from the rest of the line. As the top model, it made the second-generation A Series feel like a complete flagship flash platform rather than a simple music player. The larger capacity suited the broader media role: video, photos, and a larger music library could live in the same small device. This is where the early multimedia A concept felt most fully formed.

NW-E015

NW-E015

The NW-E015 is the mid-capacity model in the eighth-generation E Series Network Walkman lineup. It carries forward the LCD upgrade and CD jacket artwork feature. It offers 2 GB of flash memory for MP3, ATRAC, ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus, WMA, and AAC files. The LCD display, Clear Audio Technology, direct USB connection, and 30-hour lithium-ion battery were standard. This version sat in the middle of the eighth-generation E range, extending capacity while maintaining the generation's modest design refinements. It was the middle-capacity version of the same refined stick-style E generation, and probably the cleanest representation of where the line had settled by then. The player was no longer trying to be radical, tiny, or aggressively styled. It was just trying to be a good compact Walkman.

NW-E016

NW-E016

The NW-E016 is the top-capacity model in the eighth-generation E Series Network Walkman range. It represented the first 4 GB offering in the long-running E family. Featuring 4 GB of flash storage, it handled MP3, ATRAC, ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus, WMA, and AAC files. The LCD display showed track and CD jacket details, Clear Audio Technology, direct USB connection, and 30-hour lithium-ion battery rounded it out. This model capped the eighth-generation E Series with maximum storage while keeping the stick-style simplicity and broad codec support. It was the highest-capacity version of the same mature stick-style E generation and the point when that branch reached its fullest form before the line shifted again. What makes it matter is not novelty, but completeness. This is the E Series operating without much awkwardness left in it.

NWZ-A818

NWZ-A818

The NWZ-A818 represented the highest-capacity model in the overseas NWZ A Series successor family. It completed the move away from ATRAC and proprietary transfer methods. Featuring 8 GB of storage, it handled MP3, WMA, and AAC files with video and photo playback. The lithium-ion battery lasted up to 36 hours. As the top end of this generation, it underscored the overseas A line's full embrace of flash memory, drag-and-drop ease, and wider file compatibility. It is the top-capacity version of that same platform and the fullest version of Sony's first properly settled flash A Series. By this point the line had enough screen, enough polish, enough storage, and enough multimedia ambition to feel complete in a way some of the earlier premium Walkman never quite did.

NWZ-S615F

NWZ-S615F

The NWZ-S615F is an overseas FM-equipped S Series Walkman that aligned with the fifth-generation card-style redesign. It includes noise cancellation for improved listening. The player offers 2 GB storage for MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV files. A 240x320 TFT display, FM radio, WM-PORT, video and photo playback, Clear Audio, DSEE, and 33-hour lithium-ion battery completed the feature set. This unit bridged the overseas NWZ branding with the domestic card-body transition in the S line. It was the FM-equipped entry point into a more polished late-2000s S generation, where Sony had largely stopped trying to reinvent the line and instead focused on making it feel cleaner and easier to live with.

NWZ-S616F

NWZ-S616F

The NWZ-S616F provides the mid-capacity FM and noise-cancelling option in the overseas fifth-generation S Series. It adopted the broader card-style body. It features 4 GB of internal storage supporting MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV playback. The 240x320 TFT display, FM radio, WM-PORT, video/photo functions, Clear Audio, DSEE, noise cancellation, and 33-hour lithium-ion battery were included. As part of the overseas lineup, it reflected the S Series move from stick to card form while adding multimedia and isolation features. It is the middle-capacity version of the same FM-equipped S family, and probably the one that makes the most sense as a normal-use player. By this stage, the S Series had finally stopped feeling like an unresolved side branch.

In 2007, the product was restructured to prioritize practicality. This has enabled us to adapt to the competitive environment.
