NW-WM1A

NW-WM1A

The NW-WM1A is a high-quality Walkman part of the WM1 series. It has 128GB of internal storage and supports playback of MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, Linear PCM, and DSD formats. It features touch operation, Bluetooth, WM-PORT connectivity, S-Master HX, DSEE HX, and more, and can play for approximately 33 hours. This unit employs a self-contained configuration that utilizes internal storage.

The NW-WM1A marked a full commitment to Sony's high-end Walkman direction, prioritizing materials, mass, and internal layout over mainstream portability. It was developed as part of the WM1 series, which positioned portable audio as a dedicated listening category rather than a general consumer device.

The WM1A used a rigid aluminum chassis, while the companion WM1Z extended the concept with a gold-plated copper body designed to increase mass, conductivity, and signal stability. Both models emphasized structural integrity and isolation, reflecting design principles closer to stationary audio equipment than typical portable players.
