Network Walkman

Network Walkman in 2016

A visual guide to Sony’s Network Walkman lineup in 2016, as Signature Series models elevated the premium identity with advanced engineering.

Flagship releases emphasized component-level audio improvements and meticulous build standards. The range continued to serve a dedicated audience that valued the tactile and sonic experience only a purpose-built player could deliver.

NW-WS413

NW-WS413

The NW-WS413 is a W Series Network Walkman with 4 GB storage supporting MP3, AAC, and WMA playback. A lithium-ion battery delivers up to 8 hours of use. This model remained part of the compact wearable W Series branch. The WS413 is part of the phase where Sony's sport Walkman line had become one of the company's clearest examples of survival through specialization. The mainstream dedicated music player market was already shrinking fast, but the WS branch was trying to keep the Walkman relevant by making it physically useful in situations where a phone still was not ideal.

NW-E393

NW-E393

The NW-E393 is an E Series Network Walkman offering 4 GB storage for MP3, WMA, and AAC playback. A 128x160 TFT display showed track information with a lithium-ion battery rated for 35 hours. FM radio and photo playback were included. This late E Series model kept the focus on basic audio with a compact color screen. The E393 is part of the very late phase where the line had become stripped back in a good way. The old proprietary weirdness was gone. What remained was a simple compact music player with just enough screen, radio, and interface to feel current without pretending to be more than it was.

NW-E394

NW-E394

The NW-E394 is an E Series Network Walkman with 8 GB storage supporting MP3, WMA, and AAC files. It uses a 128x160 TFT display and 35-hour lithium-ion battery with FM radio and photo playback. The doubled-capacity variant retained the same compact E Series formula. The E394 is the same late E idea with a little more room and the same basic philosophy intact. By this stage the E Series had become very honest hardware. Sony was no longer trying to make the line seem more important than it really was.

NW-E395

NW-E395

The NW-E395 is an E Series Network Walkman offering 16 GB storage for MP3, WMA, and AAC playback. A 128x160 TFT display, 35-hour lithium-ion battery, FM radio, and photo playback completed the set. This Walkman model provides the highest capacity in the final E Series generation. The E395 capped that same late E branch and represents endurance of category. By the time it arrived, smartphones had already absorbed most casual music playback. Sony kept the E line alive anyway, but in a narrower and cleaner form. It is not trying to compete with a phone on features. It is preserving the dedicated-player idea for people who still preferred one.

NW-WS414

NW-WS414

The NW-WS414 is a W Series Network Walkman with 8 GB storage supporting MP3, AAC, and WMA playback. A lithium-ion battery supplied up to 8 hours of use. This version doubled storage within the wearable W Series platform. The WS414 gives that same mature sport Walkman platform more breathing room and probably represents the more naturally balanced version of the generation. It still carries the same broader "survival through specialization" identity, but with enough room to make the branch feel fully practical instead of narrowly constrained.

NW-WM1A

NW-WM1A

The NW-WM1A is a high-quality Walkman part of the WM1 series. It has 128GB of internal storage and supports playback of MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, Linear PCM, and DSD formats. It features touch operation, Bluetooth, WM-PORT connectivity, S-Master HX, DSEE HX, and more, and can play for approximately 33 hours. This unit employs a self-contained configuration that utilizes internal storage.

NW-WM1Z

NW-WM1Z

The NW-WM1Z is the top-of-the-line Walkman in the WM1 series. It features 256GB of internal storage and supports playback of MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, Linear PCM, and DSD formats. It includes touch operation, Bluetooth, WM-PORT connectivity, S-Master HX, and DSEE HX, and offers approximately 33 hours of playback. This unit employs a self-contained configuration using its internal storage.

NW-A35

NW-A35

The NW-A35 is a 10th-generation A Series Network Walkman with 16 GB storage supporting DSD playback. A lithium-ion battery provides up to 45 hours of use with touchscreen control, WM-PORT, and photo playback. This continued the compact high-resolution A Series direction. The A35 marks the point when the line settles into its clearest modern role as the accessible high-resolution Walkman. Earlier generations had already clarified the formula. The A30 family polishes it further, making the product feel more user-friendly and built for continuity instead of reinvention. Sony had decided what the branch was for and was now simply making it better.

NW-A35HN

NW-A35HN

The NW-A35HN is a 10th-generation A Series model with 16 GB storage supporting DSD playback. A lithium-ion battery provides up to 45 hours of use with touchscreen control, WM-PORT, photo playback, and bundled earphones. The HN variant added earphones to the core 10th-generation platform. It is best understood as a packaging branch of the same compact high-resolution A line instead of a separate step. The player's real importance stays the same: this is Sony's modern, listening-first Walkman operating from a place of clarity instead of confusion.

NW-A36HN

NW-A36HN

The NW-A36HN is a 10th-generation A Series Walkman offering 32 GB storage for DSD playback. It uses a 45-hour lithium-ion battery with touchscreen control, WM-PORT, photo playback, and bundled earphones. This capacity step maintained the 10th-generation A Series refinements. The A36HN gives the same platform a little more room while keeping the broader modern A-series identity. The line is still compact, still serious, and still clearly aimed at listeners who want something more intentional than a phone without stepping into the much more expensive territory above it.

NW-A37HN

NW-A37HN

The NW-A37HN is a 10th-generation A Series model with 64 GB storage supporting DSD playback. A 45-hour lithium-ion battery, digital noise cancellation, touchscreen control, WM-PORT, photo playback, S-Master HX, and bundled earphones were included. The flagship 64 GB variant added noise cancellation to the generation's feature set. The A37HN gives the same A30 platform its fullest version and probably the strongest expression of Sony's modern compact Hi-Res Walkman formula. It still carries the same calm, listening-first identity, but here the branch feels fully expanded and very easy to understand. Sony had already done the hard conceptual work and was now simply executing.

The year reinforced Sony’s long-term bet on high-end portable audio. It extended the specialist positioning into greater technical depth.
