NW-S706F

The NW-S706F is a high-capacity, noise-canceling Network Walkman part of the 4th generation S series. It features 4GB of built-in flash memory and supports audio playback in ATRAC3plus, MP3, WMA, and AAC formats. It has a color OLED display and is configured for long battery life with a lithium-ion battery.

The NW-S706F marked the introduction of integrated digital noise cancelling in Sony's compact flash Walkman lineup, positioning the S700 series as a step beyond basic playback devices. As the top 4 GB model, it combined portable audio with enhanced listening control in a small, self-contained design.

The vertical metal chassis provided a solid structure, while the darkened window over the OLED display maintained clear visibility and contrast. The compact layout followed Sony's mid-2000s design approach, emphasizing a clean interface within a minimal footprint.

The bundled earbuds incorporated microphones that fed a built-in processor, reducing consistent background noise during use. Battery life remained strong even with noise cancelling active, and playback supported ATRAC3plus and MP3 with stable performance.

The digital amplifier maintained controlled output suited for everyday listening environments. Listening became something you could control, not just carry.
