The NW-S616F is the mid-capacity card-style model in the fifth-generation S Series Network Walkman lineup. It adopted the same mainstream form factor shift. With 4 GB of flash storage, it supports MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV playback. The 240x320 LCD, FM radio, noise cancellation, video/photo feature, Clear Audio Technology, and 33-hour lithium-ion battery remained consistent.
The generation uses this body style to reposition the S Series toward wider everyday and multimedia use. It was the middle-capacity regional version of the same polished S platform. Sony had finally reached a point where the S Series could support a wide range of variants without feeling unstable.
