D-T100

Tuner
D-T100

The D-T100 is a development of the D-100 that added an AM/FM stereo radio built into the lid. Slightly larger than the base model, it integrated the tuner into the same display and control logic instead of treating it as a separate afterthought, with the track skip buttons doubling for station selection and the headphone cable serving as the antenna. Radio playback also used far less power than CD, which made the machine more forgiving away from an outlet.

By 1987, Sony was no longer treating hybrid machines like curiosities. The D-T100 was part of the point when CD players were starting to absorb the same "daily companion" logic that had already shaped the Walkman. It was simply easier to justify carrying one machine if it could cover more of the day.
