D-NE320

The D-NE320 is a compressed-audio CD Walkman from 2005 that had fully absorbed file playback into the core experience, with support for ATRAC3plus, ATRAC3, and MP3 alongside standard CDs so one burned disc could hold far more music than a conventional album. G-Protection, practical battery life, and simple file navigation kept the machine usable without much extra complexity.

By then, compressed-disc listening no longer needed to be sold as a transition. The D-NE320 was part of the stage where large burned libraries had become an ordinary part of portable listening and the player simply had to support that cleanly.
