The WM-FX421 moved the FX branch into synthesized digital tuning while keeping the rest of the machine fairly restrained, combining precise FM/AM radio control with Mega Bass and standard cassette playback inside a compact plastic portable body. The tuner side felt more exact and electronically organized, but the object itself remained very much part of the mainstream radio Walkman family instead of a premium outlier.
This model helps document how digital tuner behavior slowly became normal. The FX421 is not a landmark machine, but it is part of the transition where radio on a Walkman stopped feeling analog by default.
