The NW-S718F was the first S Series model to reach 8 GB of flash memory and sat at the top of the fifth-generation card-style lineup. It introduced the largest capacity alongside the body redesign, with MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV playback, a 240x320 LCD, FM radio, noise cancellation, video and photo playback, Clear Audio Technology, and a 33-hour lithium-ion battery.
The higher capacity made the fifth-generation S platform feel more complete. Sony had moved from stick-like forms to a broader card-style body that could support a richer display, more media functions, and quieter everyday listening through noise cancellation.
As the regional top-capacity version of that elevated S platform, it showed how the S Series could become more serious without losing its compact, personal character.
