NW-S202

The NW-S202 is a member of the third-generation sports-oriented S Series Network Walkman lineup. It combined music playback with basic fitness tracking for active users. The player offers 512 MB of flash storage and supports MP3, WMA, AAC, and ATRAC3plus files. A 1-line monochrome OLED display showed details, while a G-sensor tracked steps, distance, and calories. The lithium-ion battery lasted up to 18 hours via direct USB transfer.

A sports-oriented S Series model from the period when Sony was trying to give that branch a more specific active-use identity again. Unlike the earlier S players, this generation started layering in motion-tracking and exercise-oriented behavior more explicitly. The player still functioned first as a music device, but the added step, distance, and calorie tracking gave it a more specialized role.
