The WM-FX833 is a high-end radio Walkman that sat near the top of Sony's 1996 FX lineup, combining cassette playback with a digital tuner and ASP automatic station preset for faster radio setup. On the tape side it includes auto-reverse, Dolby B noise reduction, Mega Bass, AMS, and remote compatibility, all packaged in a compact metal-cased body with strong battery life. The tuner features gave it broader everyday utility without forcing it into the larger recorder-oriented form factors of the GX range.
This is a good example of Sony trying to keep the radio Walkman elegant instead of merely functional. The FX833 was not trying to be a recording workstation or a novelty branch, but a well-resolved portable for people who still moved naturally between tapes and broadcast listening. It is a tuner model built for ordinary carrying instead of specialist use.
