An FX-series radio Walkman equipped with a digital synthesized tuner, the FX477 allowed preset station storage and clearer reception than analog counterparts. It paired the tuner with Mega Bass sound processing and a standard cassette deck in a plastic body powered by two AA cells. The LCD display gave basic feedback on station and battery status.
Sony added synthesized tuning to this model to modernize the FX range without raising costs dramatically. It targeted users who had grown frustrated with manual dial drift, offering preset convenience in a still-affordable package as cassette players competed with emerging digital audio devices.
