The WM-AF58 is a Sports-series radio Walkman that kept the familiar bright yellow visual identity of the branch while moving the concept slightly away from earlier heavy-duty outdoor engineering. It includes a built-in FM/AM tuner, manual tape selector, and basic cassette playback inside a plastic body that also incorporated an independent solar-powered alarm clock module directly into the cassette door. Underneath the sporty presentation, the tape mechanism itself remained fairly simple.
With AF58, you can see how Sony gradually shifting the Sports idea away from pure ruggedness and toward visual recognition plus everyday utility. The bright shell still signaled active use, but the addition of a solar alarm suggests a more lifestyle-oriented direction than the earlier waterproof or structurally tougher models. Here the Sports branch was becoming softer and more general-purpose.
