WM-3000

My First Sony First AVLS
WM-3000

The WM-3000 is a simple playback-only cassette Walkman aimed at younger users, built with a colorful plastic body and an uncomplicated auto-reverse transport that kept operation easy and forgiving. It omitted most of the sound-focused or luxury features of Sony's broader 1988 lineup, instead emphasizing accessibility, durability, and straightforward handling for casual everyday use. The design belonged firmly to the more approachable side of the Walkman world.

This model matters less as a technical object than as a reminder of how wide the Walkman brand had become by the late 1980s. Sony was no longer simply building for commuters, hobbyists, or hi-fi-minded listeners, but also for children and first-time users entering portable audio through something simpler. The WM-3000 feels exactly like what it was meant to be: an introduction, not an aspiration.
