The NW-A605 is the base model of the first-generation A Series flash family. It offers 512MB built-in storage and supports ATRAC, MP3, and WMA playback on a black-and-white OLED display. A lithium-ion battery provides up to 50 hours of use and includes an FM radio tuner. It derived from the NW-E500 generation and represented the entry-level flash memory branch under the new A Series identity.
The entry point into the first flash-based A Series. It shows Sony trying to create a premium branch that sat above the E line without simply repeating it. The A Series started behaving like a more elevated flash Walkman family instead of just a renamed E Series with slightly different styling. The player felt more deliberate, more refined, and more flagship-adjacent than the playful E models around it, even if it still carries SonicStage-era baggage.
