D-810

D-810

The D-810 sat in the late-1980s lineup as a clean, solid portable with no real need to prove anything dramatic. It offered a well-developed transport, decent power flexibility, and the kind of competent execution Sony had finally reached after several years of shrinking, refining, and normalizing the format.

Earlier Discmans often feel like they are solving a problem in public. The D-810 was the point after that problem had mostly been solved, when the category could finally start behaving like a normal consumer product. That restraint is a big part of what gives it its character.
