D-140

The D-140 is a compact portable CD player from 1995 that offered basic playback, Mega Bass, and practical battery life in a clean functional shell without buffering or extra outputs. The controls stayed obvious, the body stayed light, and the whole machine felt built around the assumption that most owners would use it casually instead of obsess over features.

Portable CD had already become familiar enough by then that not every machine needed to announce itself. The D-140 makes sense as one of the models that simply assumed the format already had a place in people's lives. That confidence gives it a very mid-1990s feel.
