The D-131 is a direct mid-1990s portable CD player that ran on two AA batteries and kept things simple with Mega Bass, line out, and a compact body built around straightforward everyday use. It arrived without electronic skip protection at a point when some parts of the range had already moved on, which gave it a slightly stripped-back feel even for its own time.
By 1995, a lot of buyers simply wanted a Discman that felt familiar, affordable, and easy to live with. The D-131 belongs to that practical end of the line where the format no longer needed every model to prove something new. It just had to work.
