D-145

The D-145 shared the same underlying hardware as the D-140 but shifted the presentation through compact control and cosmetic changes while keeping the same 1-bit conversion, line out, and basic feature set underneath. It is less a new machine than a slight repositioning of one Sony already knew how to sell.

By this point, shared platforms had become a normal part of how the line was managed. The D-145 belongs to that retail-and-region logic, where compact outward differences could cover different shelves and markets without touching the core player. A lot of the Discman range worked this way by the mid-1990s.
