The YP-ER21 is a youth-oriented portable cassette player from Sony's 1996 YP line, built around simple playback controls, lightweight plastic construction, and Mega Bass in a compact form built for everyday casual use. It remained intentionally minimal and sat outside the more feature-driven EX and FX hierarchy, functioning more as a youth-market portable than as a continuation of the classic Walkman ladder.
This is exactly the kind of product that proves how broad Sony's cassette world had become by the mid-1990s. The ER21 is not trying to be "better" than a standard Walkman. It is trying to be more immediately suitable for a different kind of buyer.
