WM-SXF30

The WM-SXF30 is a water-resistant Sports Walkman that refined Sony's rugged radio-and-cassette formula into a more globally standardized product by adding a metal frame and pressure-relief venting to improve long-term sealing and structural reliability. It retained auto-reverse playback, AM/FM radio, anti-rolling support, manual tape selection, LED indicators, and a carry clip inside a larger plastic shell powered by two AA batteries. The overall design clearly prioritized durability and survivability over compact elegance.

SXF30 makes clear how the Sports Walkman was becoming less experimental and more industrially mature. By 1991, Sony was no longer simply proving that ruggedized cassette players were possible, but working out how to make them consistently dependable as a global product.
