Digital Tuner Alarm Clock Clock
WM-FX40

The WM-FX40 is a more advanced FX-series radio Walkman that brought synthesized digital tuning, 18 station presets, quick-select buttons, and a digital clock and alarm into Sony's early-1990s tuner branch. It combined those electronic controls with auto-reverse playback, anti-rolling support, FM stereo/mono switching, and manual tape selection in a plastic body that omitted the cassette window in favor of a cleaner, more managed interface. This model clearly leaned into digital convenience instead of mechanical familiarity.

Here the radio Walkman was crossing a threshold from analog utility to electronically organized daily-use device. Presets, alarms, and quick-select controls changed the experience from "find a station and play a tape" to something much more structured and routine-based. It is the FX branch becoming unmistakably early-1990s.
