The WM-FS473 pushed the Sports branch more heavily toward radio behavior, using a digital synthesized tuner with extensive preset storage and making the cassette system feel slightly secondary by comparison. It still includes auto-reverse playback and basic shock resistance, but the object is clearly organized around faster station access and better broadcast convenience in active use. The body stayed practical and exercise-friendly instead of luxurious.
That shift is what makes the FS473 interesting. It is a Sports Walkman from the point when radio had become just as useful as tape, maybe more so for some users. This model reads less of a rugged cassette player with tuner added and closer to a radio-first active portable that still happened to play tapes.
