The WM-FK2 is part of the oddest products in Sony's late cassette range, appearing in the Widdit series as a translucent blue key-ring-shaped Walkman compact enough to clip directly onto a keychain. It combined cassette playback with a built-in AM/FM tuner that could also function as a standalone radio even without a tape inserted, giving it a slightly different logic than most compact cassette players. A round remote and neck-mounted earphones completed the package, making the machine feel closer to a wearable gadget than a conventional Walkman.
This is a very revealing late-1990s Sony object because it shows the company treating cassette as just one possible behavior inside a novelty portable instead of as the whole reason for the device. The FK2 feels closer to a gadget culture object than a serious audio product, and that is exactly what stands out about it historically interesting. Captures the point when the Walkman could still survive by becoming strange.
