The WM-EX622 is a basic EX-series playback Walkman from 1995 that kept things simple without stripping away the functions that had become standard by the mid-1990s. It uses a metal body in a conventional flat orientation and offers auto-reverse, Dolby B noise reduction, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, AVLS, AMS, blank skip, a hold switch, and a bundled wired remote for easier in-pocket use. The control layout was deliberately pared back, but the machine still felt aligned with the broader EX family instead of obviously cut down.
What stands out about the EX622 is its life beyond ordinary retail use. Sony also adapted it into a de-branded OEM variant for installation in luxury cars like the Toyota Century and Lexus LS400, complete with a modified remote jack and dedicated automotive headphones. That gives the model a second identity as part of Sony's broader quiet integration into premium in-car environments, more than portable listening.
