The WM-B603 is a straightforward playback Walkman centered primarily around Mega Bass as its defining listening feature. It uses a standard cassette mechanism in a simple body without radio, Dolby noise reduction, or more advanced transport functions, leaving the machine focused on direct, energetic playback instead of broader versatility. The design stayed practical and fairly compact.
B603 captures how Sony was beginning to let certain models revolve around one recognizable sound identity instead of around a long checklist of features. Mega Bass had become strong enough as a selling idea by then to carry a product almost on its own. That makes the B603 a compact but useful sign of where the line was headed.
