WM-AF65

WM-AF65

The WM-AF65 is a more advanced radio Walkman that brought digital synthesizer tuning into the cassette-and-radio branch in a clearly more modern way than Sony's manual-tuned AF models. It includes FM/AM reception with twenty presets, an LCD display for frequency and time, clock and alarm functions, auto-reverse playback, Dolby B noise reduction, Mega Bass, and a double-layer capacitor to preserve tuner memory during battery changes. The overall package remained compact, but much more digitally managed than earlier radio Walkman.

This model sits at the stage the radio Walkman started feeling less mechanical and more electronic in its everyday behavior. This was no longer simply a cassette player with a tuner attached, but a portable routine machine organized around presets, memory, and timekeeping. It reads more as the radio branch beginning to cross into a more modern kind of portability.
