WM-AF62

10th Anniversary
WM-AF62

The WM-AF62 is a radio cassette Walkman that added one especially practical late-1980s convenience to the tuner branch: preset station memory. It combined FM/AM reception, auto-reverse playback, and up to twenty station presets inside a standard plastic body, using the tuner section more as a daily routine tool than as a novelty. The rest of the machine remained fairly restrained, with little emphasis on extra sound shaping or premium materials.

AF62 makes clear how Sony was beginning to treat radio access as something worth streamlining in the same way cassette playback had already been streamlined. Presets are not glamorous, but they matter enormously once a machine becomes part of daily habit. This is a radio Walkman built for repetition and familiarity instead of for discovery.
