WM-AF59

The WM-AF59 is a Sports radio Walkman that combined FM/AM reception with auto-reverse playback inside a water-resistant plastic shell finished in bright yellow or green depending on market. A manual tuner, DX/local switch, carry clip, and sport-oriented earphones reinforced its outdoor role, while the overall construction balanced durability with the now-standard expectation of radio portability. The body was rugged without becoming especially heavy or overbuilt.

AF59 stands out more for the way it suggests the Sports Walkman line becoming more standardized and easier to understand by the end of the 1980s. It was not one of the earlier experimental toughened machines, but a mature "active-use" Walkman designed around motion, weather, and routine use. It reads like the Sports branch after it had settled into a recognizable formula.
