WM-100

The WM-100 is one of Sony's most technically ambitious mid-1980s compact Walkman models, shrinking the player down toward cassette-size dimensions through slim pressed-metal construction and an external battery compartment. Despite the compact footprint, it includes auto-reverse playback, Dolby B noise reduction, and metal-tape compatibility, all inside a sleek body with brighter accent detailing that gives the player a more fashion-conscious character than a purely technical one. The transport packs a surprising amount into very little space.

The goal here was to bring premium convenience into the ultra-compact branch without treating miniaturization as novelty alone. It was more than compact for its own sake, but a serious attempt to combine miniaturization, features, and style into one resolved object.
