The NWD-W253 increased storage to 4 GB in the W Series clip-on Walkman. It kept the simple wearable concept. Equipped with 4 GB storage supporting MP3, AAC, and WMA files, it relied on an 11-hour lithium-ion battery and ZAPPIN functionality.

The W253 continues that same second wave of wearable Walkman. The focus here is not on hierarchy or specs, but on behavior. Sony is refining how the product is uses instead of what it is on paper. The device exists to reduce friction and remove the need for a separate carries player.
