The NW-S784 is an eleventh-generation S Series Network Walkman with 8 GB storage supporting MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV playback. A lithium-ion battery provides up to 77 hours of use with video and photo playback plus Clear Phase processing. Battery life reached as much as 77 hours in this generation of the S line.

This unit belongs to one of the final genuinely classic-feeling S generations, even though the category around it was already changing fast. It still carries the same compact, inward-facing, playback-first identity that had made the late S line so strong, but by then that identity feels much more self-conscious. Sony knew exactly what kind of product this was and, more importantly, exactly who it was not for.
