The NW-E044 is a high-capacity Network Walkman part of the 10th generation E series. It has 8GB of built-in flash memory and supports MP3, WMA, and AAC audio playback. It supports a detachable Style-Up panel and is powered by a lithium-ion battery.
By 2009 the E series had become Sony's everyday flash Walkman line, focused on compact, durable players designed for casual, portable use. The NW-E044 continued this direction while adding a simple personalization feature to an established entry-level format.
The defining element was a removable front panel, allowing users to change the exterior appearance quickly. The faceplate system introduced interchangeable colors within a compact chassis, adding visual variation without altering the underlying design.
The hardware remained consistent with the E-series approach. Weighing approximately twenty-eight grams, the player used a small display, straightforward controls, and a compact form suited for pocket use.
Clear Bass and Clear Stereo shaped playback, and the digital amplifier maintained stable output. The process finally became simple.
