D-515

D-515

The D-515 is a high-end portable CD player equipped with an electronic anti-skip mechanism. It features approximately 3 seconds of buffer time, a metal casing, and an enhanced audio output circuit. The anti-skip mechanism improves playback stability during transport, balancing sound quality and portability. It is positioned as a higher-end model with enhanced audio output and playback stability.

Portable CD players had long struggled with movement, since damped frames could only do so much before the pickup lost its place.

The D-515 answered that by adding Sony's first digital anti-shock memory, holding a short slice of audio so the disc could recover without breaking playback.

With a few seconds of audio in reserve, the D-515 showed that stability on the move could be addressed digitally rather than mechanically.

A switch on the front controlled the buffer, and the small LCD confirmed when it was active, giving the user a sense of what the mechanism was doing during a walk or commute.
