D-535G

The D-535G is a portable CD player equipped with a microphone input and vocal cancellation. In addition to audio playback, it includes an audio input configuration and functions for karaoke use. Playback is within the range of a standard CD player, with additional functions for expanded use. It is a derivative model designed for specialized applications.

Sony introduced the D-535G as a Discman capable of handling CD-Graphics media, allowing it to display on-screen lyrics and still images when connected to a television. The player followed the general layout of Sony's mid-nineties portables but added the circuitry required to read the graphic layer embedded in CD-G discs.

A rear video output defined its role. Linked to a TV, the unit processed the CD-G visual stream while functioning as a standard Discman for audio playback.

The transport and audio section behaved like Sony's non-graphics models, giving the D-535G predictable handling with regular CDs and broad compatibility with CD-G titles. Positioned as a specialty model, the D-535G extended the Discman into light home entertainment while remaining portable enough for daily use.

Its mix of standard audio playback and CD-G output gave it a clear place in the lineup and provided a simple way to use graphic discs without a dedicated deck. It extended portable CD beyond audio into simple visual playback.
