WM-RX77

Tourist Edition First RX
WM-RX77

The WM-RX77 is a compact recording Walkman built around Sony's mature early-1990s portable cassette formula, combining an EX Amorphous head, auto-reverse, Dolby B, and speed control in a slim, straightforward body. It was not overloaded with advanced recording logic or tuner features, but kept the essentials in place for users who needed a reliable portable recorder that stayed easy to carry and operate. The most widely encountered version outside Japan was the tourist package, which bundled a 100-240V charger and plug adapter for easier international use.

What makes the RX77 notable is that it reflects Sony narrowing the recorder branch into something more practical and travel-friendly instead of more ambitious. By then not every recording Walkman needed to be a mini field machine or feature showcase. The RX77 is a recorder built for real portability first, and that gives it a very different kind of usefulness than the more elaborate GX models around it.
