The WM-GX90 is the top radio-and-recording Walkman in Sony's 1991 GX range, built around a digital world tuner with FM stereo, AM, and TV-band reception plus a large LCD interface for timer recording, interval repeat, and station memory functions. On the cassette side it uses an EX Amorphous head with Dolby B, auto-reverse, and Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, while ISS switching helped reduce AM interference during recording. A side-mounted battery case for two AA cells extended operating time and reinforced its role as a machine meant to be uses for longer, more involved sessions instead of quick casual playback.
This is one of those models where the Walkman stops feeling like a music accessory and starts feeling closer to a compact portable media tool. The GX90 makes sense for people who still actively uses tape to capture things, whether broadcasts, study material, or repeated listening, and Sony clearly treated that use case seriously. It is less of a convenience model than a compact command center for someone still deeply engaged with cassette-era habits.
