The WM-GX300 is a simple GX-series radio recording Walkman that combined cassette playback, FM/AM radio, and basic recording capability with support for an external stereo microphone. Its plastic body and standard battery setup kept the machine light and uncomplicated, and the control layout focused on accessibility instead of on the more advanced transport or recording refinements found in Sony's better-equipped GX machines. It was clearly meant to be uses as a practical tool first.
This model is a good reminder that not every recording Walkman was built for enthusiasts. The GX300 was a compact working recorder for students, note-taking, casual off-air recording, and light personal use than a serious hi-fi machine. That makes it valuable in a different way. It makes clear how long Sony kept cassette useful.
