Digital Tuner First FX
WM-FX70

The WM-FX70 is a radio-equipped EX-series Walkman that added a digital FM/AM tuner to the same slim playback platform uses by the EX70. It retained auto-reverse, Dolby B, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, and the same remote-friendly operational layout, while introducing one-touch automatic station scan for easier tuning on the move. The tuner also supports worldwide band coverage, making it more versatile than a simple domestic radio add-on.

This is a very clean example of Sony's early-1990s family logic. Rather than designing a separate radio machine from scratch, the company took a well-resolved playback Walkman and extended it into broadcast use without disturbing the core user experience. The FX70 works because it still is an EX-series player first and a tuner second.
