The WM-FX55 is part of the more complete radio Walkman in Sony's 1992 range, combining cassette playback and AM/FM radio with a digital tuner, preset memory, LCD display, full remote support, Dolby B noise reduction, Mega Bass, auto-reverse, and full-logic controls hidden under a sliding cover. Its flatter laying-orientation body and automatic tape handling made it feel much more integrated and self-contained than the standing-body FX players beneath it.
More than anything, this is the point when the FX line starts behaving like a fully modern Sony portable instead of just a cassette player with a tuner. Presets, remote operation, and the hidden controls all shift the experience away from mechanical interaction and toward a more managed, everyday electronics feel. It's a very good example of what a mature early-1990s radio Walkman looked like.
