Digital Tuner
WM-FX513

The WM-FX513 moved the FX branch into a more electronically managed direction by replacing analog tuning with a synthesized digital FM/AM tuner and LCD frequency display while keeping the rest of the cassette side relatively familiar. It combined auto-reverse playback, Dolby B noise reduction, Mega Bass, anti-rolling support, and automatic volume limiting inside a compact two-AA plastic body with cassette window and standard controls. The tuner is the real shift.

That shift changes the feel of the machine. The FX513 sits in the period where the radio Walkman is becoming less about manually finding stations and more about precision, memory, and routine. It was one of the models where Sony modernized the category without changing its outward identity very much.
