An entry-level FX-series radio Walkman released in 1999, the FX193 uses a simple plastic chassis with an analog FM/AM tuner and basic tape transport. Mega Bass provides the only sound enhancement, while two AA batteries supplied up to twenty-five hours of operation. Controls stayed mechanical and minimal, with a belt clip for everyday carrying.
The design existed to keep the FX range accessible for first-time buyers. Sony maintained these low-cost radio players as a gateway into portable audio, targeting students and casual listeners who wanted radio plus tape without spending on features like digital tuning or remote control.
