The WM-EX777 is a higher-spec playback Walkman in Sony's 1993 EX family, distinguished less by radical hardware than by a cluster of compact touches that made the player feel more deliberate to use. It combined an EX Amorphous head, auto-reverse, Dolby B, Extended Dynamic Bass Boost, Automatic Music Sensor, and an LCD remote with battery-change indication, while a dedicated single-track repeat function made instant song replay easier than on more ordinary models. The metal-coated exterior and central indicator light, which shifted color in relation to the hold setting, added another layer of tactile and visual feedback.
This is one of those models where Sony was clearly working at the level of ownership experience instead of pure specification. The EX777 was not trying to reinvent the Walkman, but to make it feel a little nicer, a little more responsive, and a little more self-aware in daily use. That gives it a distinctly early-1990s kind of sophistication.
