WM-EX7

WM-EX7

The WM-EX7 is a playback-only Walkman with an automatic reversal function. It features Dolby B, remote control operation, and bass boost functionality, and is compatible with AA batteries and gum-type rechargeable batteries. It is an early high-end model that enhances convenience through the introduction of electronic control functions.

The WM-EX7 took the established EX platform and shifted it toward a smaller and simpler layout. The compact metal chassis was assembled in Japan and kept the mechanism straightforward while giving the player a light, firm feel.

The EX7 emphasized clean lines, low weight, and a reduced feature set built around core playback functions. Daily use centered on the RM-WME7 remote, which handled transport, settings, and display information through its small backlit screen.

The player itself used the mature late-series EX transport with logic control, Auto Reverse, AMS, Blank Skip, and Anti-Rolling to stabilize tape movement during walking. Battery life remained a strength.

The EX7 ran for long stretches on a single gumstick rechargeable cell, and Dolby B, metal tape support, and Extended DBB rounded out a compact late-era cassette Walkman focused on essential features rather than added complexity. The WM-EX7 refined the EX platform by reducing size and features while maintaining stable, everyday playback performance.
