The WM-EX641 is a close derivative of the EX633, carrying over the same core playback hardware and overall compact body while refreshing the exterior presentation for selected markets. Auto-reverse, Dolby B noise reduction, Mega Bass, AVLS, blank skip, and 15x AMS search all remained intact, along with the same long battery performance and bundled remote-friendly design. The most visible changes were cosmetic instead of mechanical, with the player functioning as a lightly updated continuation of an already proven platform.
What makes the EX641 revealing is that it shows how Sony managed the late Walkman line through controlled visual variation instead of constant technical reinvention. By then many of the internals were already mature enough to keep in service, so freshness often came through styling and market-specific packaging. It is a typical but revealing example of how the cassette range was maintained in its final strong years.
