WM-EX570

The WM-EX570 is a mid-tier EX-series cassette Walkman from Sony's 1999 lineup, slotted between basic entry models and more feature-packed variants. It uses an auto-reverse transport for uninterrupted playback, incorporated Dolby B noise reduction to clean up tape hiss, and includes Mega Bass circuitry for low-end emphasis, all housed in a straightforward plastic chassis with a single-AA power source that delivers around thirty hours of use. Support for a wired remote rounded out the controls, letting users adjust volume and skip tracks without pulling the unit from a pocket or bag.

At this point in the cassette era, Sony had shifted the EX range toward reliable everyday performance instead of headline innovations. The EX570 existed to give budget-conscious listeners a step up from the cheapest players without crossing into premium metal-bodied territory, targeting commuters and students who wanted decent sound and tape handling but did not need radio or elaborate sound-processing extras. Its combination of auto-reverse and remote made it functional for long listening sessions where flipping tapes or fiddling with buttons felt like an interruption.
