WM-BF59

10th Anniversary
WM-BF59

The WM-BF59 is a Sports radio Walkman that combined FM/AM reception, auto-reverse playback, water resistance, and Mega Bass in a Taiwan-manufactured plastic body built for active use. A manual tuner kept the radio side simple, while the overall construction favored portability and dependable use during exercise or outdoor movement instead of premium finish. The feature set was practical, not extravagant.

Sony was stabilizing the Sports radio Walkman into a very understandable late-1980s formula: rugged enough, loud enough, convenient enough, and easy to carry. It comes through as the kind of machine that made the Sports branch durable as a commercial category instead of just a visual sub-line.
