WM-B47

10th Anniversary
WM-B47

The WM-B47 is a midrange playback Walkman that combined Mega Bass, Dolby B noise reduction, auto-reverse, and anti-rolling stabilization into a practical plastic body built for regular portable use. It shared its mechanism family with other B-series models, but its feature mix made it noticeably more complete than the simpler playback-only machines below it. The overall design stayed compact and usable instead of trying to signal luxury.

much of Sony's "good everyday Walkman" formula had stabilized by the end of the 1980s. It was not a statement piece or a specialist branch, but a very balanced playback machine with the set of conveniences most people would actually value. It was the middle of the line done properly.
