WM-B19

10th Anniversary
WM-B19

The WM-B19 is a budget playback Walkman that added a little more personality to the lower end of the range through variable Mega Bass and Dolby B noise reduction. It kept manual tape selection and a compact black plastic body with eight-hour runtime from two AA batteries, but the added sound shaping gave it a more "enhanced" identity than the plainer B-series machines around it. The transport itself remained simple and cost-conscious underneath.

B19 makes clear how Sony was continuing to filter recognizable sound features down into the affordable end of the market. It was not a premium player, but it gave budget buyers access to some of the same branded listening language appearing elsewhere in the line. It was a lower-tier Walkman that still wanted to sound fun.
